"Anita Gispert: The Photographer of Caldes"
(2024 - on, THERMALIA History Museum)

Roles: XD, Exhibition Curator, Film director
Commissioned by THERMALIA History Museum, Ajuntament de Caldes, Diputació de Barcelona

Anita Gispert Vila was the first registered female documentary photographer in Spain. As the official photographer of Caldes de Montbui from 1911 to 1930, her work went uncredited over time, as she signed her photos ‘A. Gispert.’

Today, her legacy is celebrated through the exhibition Anita Gispert: The Photographer of Caldes, which highlights her pioneering contributions and the importance of honoring women’s roles in history. On another level, the experience also invites viewers to reflect on their ancestors and the value of visual archives.

Exhibition Dates: 12 October 2024 – 30 March 2025
@Museum Thermalia, Caldes de Montbui

Itinerary Anita Gispert:  Explore the permanent QR code route to discover Caldes de Montbui’s historic center through Anita’s lens. Experience the town and its people as they were in the early 20th century, standing where they once stood—a window to the past.
 🤳🗺️

Beyond discovering Anita’s story, visitors can reflect on heritage themes interactively by:

  • Visiting a replica of a living room wall adorned with portraits of Caldes de Montbui’s citizens’ grandparents and great-grandparents, gathered through a community open call—a collection that would have otherwise remained in private homes.
  • Taking portraits at the interactive photo booth, which includes a life-sized replica of Anita and period costumes.

Visitors can also enjoy a permanent QR code route through the streets of Caldes de Montbui, immersing themselves in Anita’s legacy and the town’s history.

The Informal Justice Court Room
(pre-production, NL)

Roles: XD, Film editor
Commissioned by Aardschap Foundation

How do people find justice, and can they improve their situation?

Stichting Aardschap (Netherlands), initiated by artist Melle Smets and criminologist Joost Van Onna, has launched an action research project to develop a toolbox aimed at helping people: the Informal Justice Court.

The project began with a two-year pilot program in both female and male prisons in Lagos, Nigeria.

Pilot goal: to address, research, and find solutions to the issue of prolonged pre-trial detention in Lagos, Nigeria

Main goal: make justice accessible to everyone

Over 15 million individuals around the world suffer prolonged and unnecessary pretrial detention every year.

This is also a major problem in Nigeria. In Ikoyi prison, the largest prison in the fast-growing metropolis of Lagos, 90% of the prisoners sit in limbo, with no prospect of a speedy trial, with direct consequences for themselves, their families. and the overcrowded prison.

Working closely with Nigerian scientists, artists, theatre makers, NGOs, lawyers and awaiting trial prisoners, Aardschap Foundation (Netherlands) set up a moot court in Ikoyi: the Informal Justice Court (ICJ) where prisoners in pre-trial detention prepare their criminal case with the help of pro-bono lawyers and theatre makers.

By the act of embodiment and theatrical play, inmates  prepare for court trial by stepping into the role of rights, public prosecutor and lawyer themselves.

In 2023, I completed the «Erasmus For Young Entrepreneurs» grant, a 6-month exchange with Studio C.A.R.E. and Rnul Interactive in Rotterdam (NL). I consulted on projects from concept to delivery, focusing on playful and co-creative audience engagement. This experience deepened my research into «physical ecosystems», emphasizing participatory processes and exploring themes like social design, heritage, circularity, modularity, gamification, and interactivity.

3 layers of engagement were explored:

  1. Understanding the Audience and their needs: Using Design Thinking methodology, we focused on identifying the project’s target audience and their specific needs.

  2. Strengthening the studio’s community and client base: This involved gathering insights, documenting creative processes, and designing communication strategies. Key actions included facilitating community workshops, creating newsletters, producing documentary videos, and redesigning copy and websites.

  3. Researching and iterating on the studio’s methodologies

· CB-Lab (Rote Fabrik) – community experimentation space for electronic and electro-acoustic music

· Huis van de Toekomst – concept and design for the project’s showroom (energy transition and sustainable living community in the neighbourhood of Bospolder-Tussendijken, Rotterdam)

· Lieve tante Olga (Taal Museum)

· Studio C.A.R.E. – copy and visual identity revision of the landing page + Curated Catastrophe‘s methodology iteration
