Challenge:

· Create an accessible sound studio for everyone to experience
· Co-creational community project

Project:

The CB Lab is a co-creatively designed, modular space for electronic and electro-acoustic music, serving as an accessible hub for learning, performing, and producing from scratch.

Blending creation, knowledge transfer, and events, it supports rehearsals, recording, instrument building, workshops, and live-streams. Every detail, from acoustic design to multimedia infrastructure, is customized for high-end experimentation and adaptability.

Prioritizing sustainability, the lab integrates eco-friendly materials like hemp, recycled denim, and FSC plywood, providing a climate-conscious yet cosy environment.

— Coral project description

As part of the project’s research, interviews were conducted at the CB-Lab prototype launch space (Rote Fabrik, Zürich).

Intention: A Design Thinking exercise to gather insights on initial spatial interactions and community needs.

This collaboration stems from the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs grant, a six-month exchange program between Studio C.A.R.E. (radical social designers) and creative director/filmmaker (XD) Mar Gimeno Lumbiarres.

Goal:

Exploring playful and co-creative participatory design to enhance audience engagement in spatial experiences, focusing on ‘physical ecosystems’.
